J-Bar Ranch, LLC

J-Bar Ranch provides a comprehensive educational and equestrian program for K-12 students, known as “Horse & Reader.” Spring and Fall semester classes are two (2) hours in length, with a maximum of eight (8) students in each class. One and two-week summer camp sessions are three (3) hours in length, with a maximum of twelve (12) students in each camp. We meet briefly in an opening circle in the barn classroom, talk about the day’s agenda, answer any questions the students have, review the J-Bar safety rules, and say the safety pledge. Then we divide into small groups (maximum of four [4] students in each group). Each group begins with a few minutes of “horse management” (pen cleaning, learning how to care for a horse, etc.), and then the groups in the school-year program rotate through two activity centers—reading and horsemanship. During summer camp, the groups rotate through an additional multi-subject activity, which could be an art project or “horse detectives” lesson. One-hour, private riding lessons are offered during Spring and Fall semesters.
